Barney looks at you funny, as if you have worms coming out of your ears.
Barney: Why ya askin' about her fer? Ya know your not supposed to ask about Wenndie right? My paw would have a fit if he hears you going around making more rumors about her!
You wave your arms frantically to not offend and apologize if you've overstepped anything. You were just curious about her since she was in Wynsiph for a while.
Barney looks you over-thoughtfully, before loosening up.
Barney: Ehhh whatever, I don't really care. Just promise me ya ain't gonna gossip about her alright? It stresses ma out enough as it is, ya know.
You cross your heart and hope to die.
Barney: Thanks. Ya know, she ain't like, as disgusting as they say, okay? She's kinda goofy, like me! But she's got problems. Bad ones. An’ sometimes I guess I kinda hate her fer making ma so sad all the time. Cause if it weren't fer her, ma would be a lot better, ya know? But I guess it's not like she does it on purpose so…
He kicks his foot a little, conflicted.
Barney: Anyways, family is family, and if we don't stick together, we blow away in the dust-storms, as they say. I believe this whole town is a big family, and now that yer in it, I know I can trust ye to keep the Gumbuckle name standin' strong. Ya think you can do that?
He puts a confident hand up and on your shoulder for reassurance. You smile and nod, and he smiles back at you. Barney grabs a drink from a passing plate for you and holds up a glass of his own.
Barney: To new friends, and family!
You hold up your drink with Barney, thinking about the story he just told you. This family sure has its skeletons, but they also know how to throw a fun party. You get yourself some snacks, meet more wyngrew, and enjoy the live music until the sun comes up!
