Quest: Bandit Had It

(Sorry but I don’t trust you)

You recalled the warnings that you heard when it comes to traveling safe. Sometimes you will come across strangers on the road, but you need to be careful of who to trust. While it’s good to give someone the benefit of the doubt, it never hurts to be cautious. Plus, you get bad vibes from this one.

Gently but firmly, you tell the stranger that you are not comfortable sharing your camp with them. You also state that you are low on provisions, only having enough for yourself until you reach the next town. The stranger appears to be saddened by this, but thanks you for your time, only to then disappear back into the darkness.

Well, that’s that.

The encounter leaves you feeling unsettled, as a part of you wonders if it was the right thing to do. As you sit and ponder over your morality, you notice that your fire is starting to die down. Not wanting to have your fire go out, you get up and walk over to the trees and bushes that are nearby.

CRACK!

The sound of something blunt hitting the back of your head ripples through your ears and skull. A dull pain causes you to stumble a few steps forward, but before you are even able to comprehend what happened, you feel your feet being swept out from under you.

You hit the ground like a sack of rocks. Your vision is blurred. and your other senses are too overwhelmed with the pain in your head to register the sound of laughter as a hooded figure looms over you.

Stranger: You wanted to play hard to get, so I decided that I was going to play even harder.

The voice comes from a hooded figure. The moonlight catches the gleam of a short sword being pointed just mere inches from your throat, and you gulp. Your vision beings to clear slightly and you notice by the fire, more shadowy figures begin picking up your belongings. You make an attempt to protest, but the stranger puts their foot on your chest and you feel the point of the sword touching your skin.

Stranger:  Nuh uh uh, I don’t think so. You’re going to sit there nice and quiet while my colleagues take every last bit of your shit. Keep struggling and I might just have to steal your life away as well. Be a good little gro and don’t move.

Not wanting to die at the hands of a bandit, you lay still and quickly succumb to your injuries, falling unconscious. Your sleep is not a pleasant one, and you wonder if there will be a tomorrow for you.

You fall into a void of dreamless emptiness until your eyes slowly open. Where are you?

You find yourself lying by your campfire with your hands bound behind your back. Slowly, you sit up and look around your camping spot and see that all of your belongings have been taken. You’ve been left with nothing but the clothes on your back and a puckoo egg-sized lump on your head.

At least you’re alive, but for how much longer? With no small effort, you are able to get your hands out from behind your back and in front of you, though they still remain bound. Taking deep breaths, you try not to panic and set off towards the next town that you were going to.
